Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at  if you cannot find an answer to your question.

What does “Modality/Theory” mean?

Modality and theory are used interchangeably, and they are ways that a therapist chooses to help their clients. Often, it fits well with their values or beliefs about how healing occurs and why.  Even if two therapists use the same theory or modality, it may present very differently from therapist to therapist.

Which ones does Lindyn use?

I primarily use Narrative Theory as my backbone, and this means that I listen to someone’s story, then we work together to parse apart what parts of the various stories make up who you are and may contribute to how you’re feeling now.

Maybe you're dealing with explosive anger that feels uncontrollable. What is the story behind that anger that leads you to feel the need to push it down or let it out on those who are undeserving? Perhaps you feel shame in relationships, like no matter how hard you try, it doesn’t feel like enough. My approach to narrative theory would examine the story behind this shame. Where did the shame start? How did it wiggle its way into the various relationships? How might this feeling of shame shift or change if we engage with it in new ways?

I also use Multicultural, Junian, DBT, CBT and Internal Family Systems-informed (IFS) interventions. Interventions are what techniques are used to help individuals overcome challenges. While I primarily use Narrative Theory and its interventions, I also use interventions from the other theories mentioned above to assist in ensuring the best and most individualized care for my clients. Perhaps you are someone who likes practical approaches with things you can do outside of the therapy room to improve your experience; I might use some CBT or DBT interventions to help you. Perhaps you are someone who thinks and feels deeply and wants to engage with emotions on a deeper level; I might use IFS-informed or Jungian interventions with you.
